Cowboys slow season and how the new kickoff rule change affects the team #dallascowboys
In this Dog Days of Summer episode, Prescott and Eddie dive into the latest football buzz. They chat about new rule changes, like the kickoff rule, and how these might shake up roster spots (possibly goodbye Goodwin and makes Turpin more valuable). Prescott thinks the team’s got solid depth and isn’t too worried about the third wide receiver spot. They also touch on the value of positions like long snapper and punter (there may be some Blue Mountain State references in there). The convo is super chill, with lots of back-and-forth about roster decisions and their impact on the team’s performance. Join us as we slog through these last few weeks until Training Camp and we can start a CeeDee Lamb watch.

Intro (00:00:36) - Here we go, here we go.
Prescott (00:00:38) - Victory Formation podcast. It's your boy Prescott. That's your boy Eddie. Eddie, say, well, up to the people. They miss you.
Eddie (00:00:44) - Oh. What's up, ladies and gentlemen? We miss you, too. We miss you too.
Prescott (00:00:48) - Man. They miss that handsome face.
Prescott (00:00:52) - man, me in the dead heat of the boring. Off summer off summer off season all summer. Yeah, I just made up a new thing. But yeah, when the heat of the. The good thing is, like we talked about in the last part, when we talked about the white House, we don't have to worry like we did before. And like, man, I told people before, we used to have to worry like, God, please only let one person get arrested this off season as opposed to the 5 or 6 the Cowboys used to have this season. It's it's more manufactured stuff. It's more they need to talk hype up how much someone hates Dak or what ranking Mike Parsons is in the downs. You know, little stuff like that. And when it's like that they're like hard is.
Eddie (00:01:36) - So like Micah Parsons when he went roller skating last night why wasn't he in the. In the playbook? Learning how to be a lineman. Give me a break, man. It's like I live, man.
Eddie (00:01:46) - Let them live.
Prescott (00:01:47) - So when I hear stories like that, then I know we're in a good spot because now they have to manufacture stuff for us. But it's. It's a few stuff going on. You heard any any interesting things? Any interesting tidbits?
Eddie (00:02:02) - few things. I mean, this last week or so. we we lost a, a cowboy coach, a previous cowboy coach and Monte Kiffin, the great Monte Kiffin, defensive coordinator. I think he was a football coach for about 517 years.
Prescott (00:02:20) - And Methuselah of coaching, man, it was crazy. He was around for so long. And for those who don't know him, he was the basically the architect of the Tampa two. Whenever you hear Tampa two, which is used like like everybody knows Tampa two now he's the one that started it back with the and with the Tampa Bay books. And that's why they call it Tampa two, where they had two safeties back because.
Eddie (00:02:42) - He had the perfect linebacker for.
Prescott (00:02:43) - It. He did Derek Brooks was insane.
Eddie (00:02:46) - Middle linebacker. To be able to get back to the safety spot, you got.
Prescott (00:02:49) - To be able to start there in the line. And either that that guy has to be able to rush or he has to be able to turn tail and run like 15 yards to the middle of the field and still make the play. And it sounds easy, but it's very, very hard. You gotta have the right linebacker to do it. Absolutely. We had it with Sean Lee when when Money Kiffin coached for us, he had Sean Lee. So he had he had the personnel to do it. And then the other one I know that was really good at it was the bears when they had Brian Urlacher. So those two, Derrick Brooks and Brian Urlacher, the typical the prototypical Tampa two linebackers.
Eddie (00:03:23) - That's because Urlacher, to be honest with you, Urlacher I believe was probably one of the first safeties to play linebacker in the NFL.
Prescott (00:03:32) - Yeah. But he was I was like, how did he play safety?
Eddie (00:03:35) - He was huge safety for for the New Mexico Lobos.
Eddie (00:03:39) - He was the safety. And I remember watching him. Yeah. Humongous humongous man.
Prescott (00:03:43) - And this man, like he came into the league looking like a linebacker. That's why I was like, man, if they if he played safety, I'll be scared to go over the middle.
Eddie (00:03:50) - Very true.
Prescott (00:03:51) - But very true. Yeah. But rest in peace, Monty Kiffin. Even though when he coached us he sucked. Yeah he was terrible. He had a.
Eddie (00:04:00) - We had some pretty bad drafting of some defensive linemen that were his his.
Prescott (00:04:06) - Plus. By that time, teams had figured out the weak spots in the Tampa two. So it's like before it was a defense. You could run all the time, but now you people still use tempo too, but periodically, like in spot situations. So that's how it is. Yeah. Yeah. You can't run a base defense. Tampa too. So but I mean at the time he was a genius when he did it and it worked. That Tampa team was ridiculous.
Eddie (00:04:32) - Yeah. And I think anything that ever comes in the NFL, that copycat league. Right. It just takes like a it takes us about a season and a half before people say, got to figure it out no matter what it is. If it's offense defense, if it's a niche, you know, play that, you have to make it work about it.
Prescott (00:04:51) - When when the Dolphins had the the wildcat.
Eddie (00:04:55) - It was a wild guy.
Prescott (00:04:55) - From, from a Auburn man. I forgot his name. it was him and a Ricky Williams. it was the running back, and they like. And they did it out of, like, necessity. Cadillac.
Eddie (00:05:07) - Cadillac. Williams. Yeah.
Prescott (00:05:08) - Cadillac. Williams. That's. His name is Cadillac Williams. What a great Ricky.
Eddie (00:05:12) - What a great name as a running back. But yeah, as a.
Prescott (00:05:15) - Running back.
Eddie (00:05:16) - Those, but I mean, it was a Wildcat than it was the, what were the option.
Prescott (00:05:22) - The read option when so like it was them to first but with Miami and they did it because their quarterback was so bad, they had more, more success putting this into the offense as opposed to their quarterback throwing the ball.
Prescott (00:05:35) - That's. So that was one of those things where they didn't like discover something. They had to do it. But but it worked. And but I mean, it wasn't something you could win a Super Bowl doing, but it worked for them considering what they had on their team. And the next one was the read option, which, I hated it, but, Robert Griffin and Colin Kaepernick. I remember when Robert Griffin's rookie season, I was like, man, we're going to see this guy for 15 years. He's gonna tear us up. I was so disappointed because he killed us.
Eddie (00:06:04) - I saw I saw the.
Prescott (00:06:05) - Read.
Eddie (00:06:05) - Option. I saw a replay the other day of of RG three rookie year. And when he did that and he ran just like up the field left, it was like a 70 yard run. And we were like, wow. What?
Prescott (00:06:17) - I remember when, Colin Kaepernick did it to A.J. Hawk on the, on the in the playoffs against green Bay Packers. He had him so lost, so confused.
Prescott (00:06:27) - He was just looking around. He didn't know who had the ball. Colin Kaepernick was ridiculous with it. Then, of course, like we were talking about, it's a copycat league. And then of course these guys get paid millions of dollars. So they go in the lab and they say, all right, we can stop this. And that's why some things work, but they don't work for long. You always have to build on it. That's why you see the read option. But nobody runs it exclusively like, Colin Kaepernick and RG three did it back in the day.
Eddie (00:06:55) - Yeah. there's, speaking of, changes, this year, there was a rule change, that we adopted the, the kickoff rule of the USFL. Right.
Prescott (00:07:09) - I'm excited for that.
Eddie (00:07:10) - I am too. And I think we did that not only to, you know, make the game a little bit more fun, but to to make sure that we're cutting back on some of those really big collisions that kick off high speed collisions.
Prescott (00:07:24) - Everybody run at 20 miles an hour.
Eddie (00:07:26) - If anybody has ever played football, if you've ever been on a kickoff and the kickoff team, you know what I'm talking about. But being on kickoff is like, it's like me saying, Prescott, this is what I want you to do. Put this helmet on. I want you to stand right here, and I want you to run 60 yards as fast as you possibly can and run into that wall. That's all it is. I mean, there's no strategy. You stay in your lane, you run down and make a tackle, and closest.
Prescott (00:07:56) - Person makes the tackle. Yeah.
Eddie (00:07:57) - And I mean, can you imagine how fast these athletes are right now getting a 40 yard head start sprint man. Imagine trying to take that hit on.
Prescott (00:08:09) - That's why stars don't play special teams. It's usually the bench. Guys.
Eddie (00:08:13) - Don't say that. Don't say that. Take it back. Take it back right now, Prescott. Take it back.
Prescott (00:08:18) - You won't see Michael Parsons playing on special teams.
Prescott (00:08:21) - No.
Eddie (00:08:22) - But you will. But you don't downplay it though. But I think, that's where most of the stars start. Right. And they, they do.
Prescott (00:08:29) - They'll come back as rookies because they gotta feel like this person is like they only do that because they can't risk their Michael Parsons getting hurt on special teams doing those collisions.
Eddie (00:08:39) - Sam Williams he just heard what you said. He's like what? But gunner.
Prescott (00:08:45) - The best gunner in.
Eddie (00:08:45) - Football speaking of gunners but I mean the the kick off boy I mean we we took that kickoff rule on right. And the there's going to be two big changes in our on our roster, on our team because of that kickoff role I believe. And I've read a couple things about it and tell me if you agree with this. Kansas City Chiefs already said Harrison Butler is not going to do our kickoffs anymore. And, you know, everyone was like, why? It's because the kickers expected to make tackles now on the kickoffs with with the new rule. Right.
Eddie (00:09:21) - No. You know with with everybody being so close and you can't move until somebody touched I mean it it's weird. So the kickers definitely going to be making tackles. And we we have a gentle little soccer player kicker and oh man. And we don't want to make him a bill, believe me. Please, for the love of God, please don't. Don't make me take a tackle. Yeah, At least let them put. Kick. Tackle. Right. Just like. Like a trip. But don't. Don't make a text. So I'm thinking that we'll probably have anger make doing our kickoffs this year. Yeah. Make sense?
Prescott (00:09:56) - I missed a punt this year. What's his name? Chris Jones. The Punisher that we used to have. We had he made that tackle on the sideline and destroyed that guy.
Eddie (00:10:04) - You know that the Cowboys one time had a kicker and a place kicker. and that wasn't that long ago. Yeah, I remember that guy was from us. Yeah. The kicker from USC was it Bueller? Yeah.
Eddie (00:10:16) - David Bueller. Yeah. He was. Yeah. He because our because what was it. It was like our, our field goal kicker couldn't make it.
Prescott (00:10:24) - Yeah. He couldn't make anything like like it's like he didn't have a strong enough leg. It would have landed at the 20 yard line every single time. So they need a builder to get it all the way to the end.
Eddie (00:10:33) - Zone that we had that. That's crazy.
Prescott (00:10:35) - Two spots. And I thought about that while you were talking. I was like, I wonder if they would consider adding a position just for somebody to kick off. And I'm like, but that's too valuable, man. It's only 53 spots. Well, 46 people as as.
Eddie (00:10:50) - Anybody that can just boot it, right? I mean like,
Prescott (00:10:53) - Yeah, exactly. You ain't gotta be special. Like, you ain't gotta kick it accurately. Just kick it up in the air and be ready to make the tackle.
Eddie (00:10:59) - Most teams have got to have somebody that played soccer in their in their youth.
Eddie (00:11:03) - I mean, that's why, what's his name. The safety from the the Chiefs made the was the place kicker last year for a couple games.
Prescott (00:11:09) - Oh yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah I remember that man. We had the goat kick for us a couple of times, Jeff.
Eddie (00:11:13) - He for us. That was great because he was a.
Prescott (00:11:15) - Soccer but you know. But you know who's rolling over in his you know, I don't even know if he's dead. Bill Bates. I know this is a sad day for him.
Eddie (00:11:23) - Yeah, well, it's a.
Prescott (00:11:24) - Sad day for him.
Eddie (00:11:25) - Man. I loved Bill Bates when I was young. I mean, he was one of the man.
Prescott (00:11:29) - He was a hard hat. Show up to work. He took special teams seriously, and he was very good at it. And we got a guy that's pretty good. That might be on the bubble now. Yeah. this is Eddie's best friend. No, he's second. He's second behind. Jordan Lewis.
Eddie (00:11:46) - It's just because he's.
Prescott (00:11:47) - Been dear to Eddie.
Eddie (00:11:48) - It's because he's been taking up a roster spot for, like, fucking five years for no reason.
Prescott (00:11:53) - Now it is a reason. He is a excellent. He's a top tier. I'm special teams person. I did the.
Eddie (00:11:59) - Math last year on this. On the amount of kickoff on the amount of tackles he made.
Prescott (00:12:06) - How much you get paid.
Eddie (00:12:08) - It made no sense. It was like us and me and you telling me we can't find a backup quarterback or. I mean think about it. Right, right, right. When they, when they go to when when they're practice. Right. And they're like, all right, everybody break up into fucking cornerback linebackers C.J., go fucking run. Run straight. Because C.J. didn't run in a straight line over there. We're going we're going to work on you can Can you imagine? I mean, that's that's.
Prescott (00:12:35) - What you see that you see that dummy 60 yards down the field? Run as fast as you can and tackle it.
Prescott (00:12:40) - Oh, no. They had to put it on like a and then put it on a Roomba. So at least moving a little bit like it's not stationary.
Eddie (00:12:46) - I mean.
Prescott (00:12:46) - I mean hey put some respect on Goodwins, man. He's very good at what I like, but but but to be for real, I completely understand what you mean about being a wasted spot. but in his defense, it was lots of times where where the guy caught it. He might have went one yard or two and he had to tackle like he was there and he made the tackle. So he was good at what he did. And I understand why they kept him, because bones thinks, special teams is the most important part of the game. It's like, forget offense, forget defense. We need special teams guys. And so he was one of those guys.
Eddie (00:13:20) - So I'm of the. I'm of the mindset of you can find somebody on your roster that can do everything you probably. I'm talking about I don't think I, I'm of the mindset that you don't need to have a long snapper.
Eddie (00:13:35) - You don't have to have an actual long snapper on your team. There's are many fucking players that can that I guarantee you. They they were a long snapper in high school Or you could teach somebody to to throw the ball between their legs don't have and they.
Prescott (00:13:53) - Stand up backwards and just fling it like that. I'm like, is there a rule that you have to be bent over in between you?
Eddie (00:13:59) - Even if teach somebody, I guarantee you a tight end would be an absolute perfect long snapper. Just teach it, man. And that's a roster spot. And there's another roster spot that you just saved yourself. I don't get it. I used to.
Prescott (00:14:11) - Say that too. I used to be like, man, that that is like the best jobs. The long snapper, the kicker and the punter. You well, kicker. It's really stressful because you really like sometimes you can lose a game. So like you they're like, oh, we get you down to the 32 yard line. Yes two seconds.
Prescott (00:14:28) - Then he shanks it. Then he's the then then he's he's wearing the horns all week like but punter and long snapper. Those are the two best gigs in sports. Or if you're like a backup quarterback for a Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers, like you say, like Chase Daniel, he was the the king of that. He made so much money and played like five games his whole career, and all of them were gone. He never had a meaningful game in his career.
Eddie (00:14:50) - Elvis Jr, stuff like like players like that. Like you're, that that would be the absolute best position unless you were a competitor, right? I mean, that's the whole. I don't know if you.
Prescott (00:15:01) - Want to play. You want to win. Have you ever.
Eddie (00:15:03) - Seen Blue Mountain State?
Prescott (00:15:05) - Oh, just about to say that. Blue Mountain State. That's my boy.
Eddie (00:15:09) - Right? Every single time he's like, no, no, no, coach, I'm not that good. I'm good, I'm good.
Prescott (00:15:13) - He got mad.
Prescott (00:15:14) - He had to get in the game. But yeah but but long snapper and punter. It's like man you you are in the game for a total of two minutes every game. Relax it and you get paid, man? At one point, are.
Eddie (00:15:29) - You still running? Yeah. Keep on going. But I'm never gonna forget this, man. I'm never gonna forget a French guy.
Prescott (00:15:38) - That French guy, J.P. Latta or whoever it was for a long time, we had, man, that guy about, like, the last five years of his career, he was making $1 million a year. Even though I'm like, he plays like five minutes a game and makes $1 million, he doesn't have to worry about CTE, you know, to worry about.
Eddie (00:15:55) - You know, that they can't hit the long snapper either, right?
Prescott (00:15:59) - They can't you can't touch them. You can't.
Eddie (00:16:02) - Touch them. That's fucking.
Prescott (00:16:03) - Crazy. That's a penalty. And I'm like, man, that's the best job. You get paid a million bucks.
Eddie (00:16:07) - So. So yeah. So that's the that's the the big change in the kickoff roles. I think that it's going to put C.J. Goodwin's roster spot on the bubble. Like you said, I think he's either going to need to say, oh no, no, coach, I can't cover a receiver or I can't. I can run a route, something like that. But we're not going to just do this anymore. And, you know, the and the punter kicking off. So those two spots I think are, are really, going to be a change for us this year.
Prescott (00:16:37) - But one thing I do like I can say I do like is I believe this is going to add value. As good as Turpin was, oh, he almost broke. He almost had like five touchdowns last year. Almost had he got tackled on the opposite side of the field like at the 40 or the 30 or whatever. He had five touchdowns last year.
Eddie (00:16:57) - But you know that. Did you see that article that came out today, whether he's like the, fourth fastest guy in the NFL or something like that?
Prescott (00:17:05) - Oh, yeah.
Prescott (00:17:05) - He's a I watch I've been rewatching the season I just finished a couple days ago with the Washington game, but this makes him more valuable because he's more shifty. And once he can break one tackle, you're not going to catch him. So I think this makes him more valuable. So now I think teams are going to start, searching for and investing in quality kick returners like a Devin Hester or a Dante Hall or a Turpin, because now they're more valuable than than they used to be because, like our guy, I think he had four return kicks all of last year. All of last year he had four return kicks. Oh yeah. And all of them were in the end zone. They just ran him out of there. Fourth for for for.
Eddie (00:17:45) - Aubrey that was crazy. I think we talked like four. We're like, he's. There's only been like one at the end of the year. I remember we've been talking about it, man.
Prescott (00:17:51) - It was close. One of the announcers was like, I think this is fourth return kick.
Prescott (00:17:57) - And I didn't look it up, but I just took him at his word. So it was somewhere, anywhere between 2 and 4 for the whole season and as many points we scored, plus adding the original kickoff for the beginning of the game, what I have, adding all those up and he had so many kick offs and they and they only return 2 or 4. But now this gives teams more chances to do it while reducing injury. So it makes that guy more, more valuable. And we already had a top five. I say top three returner anyway and this makes them more valuable.
Eddie (00:18:28) - So speaking about the roster and roster spots, you know, I was thinking about this week and you know, I was doing some listening to some some other podcasts and I got an idea, you know, some of a fact or cap every week I'm going to give you a factor cap. And I want you to tell me what you think. All right? All right, so this one, I'm. This one was a good one that I heard this week and makes a whole lot of sense because so do you believe is it factor cap that the Cowboys, our current roster, that third wide receiver is not that big of a deal? We can put anybody in that third wide receiver spot.
Eddie (00:19:14) - Let me tell you why. Let me give you an idea. Why. Because Ferguson is our second wide receiver.
Prescott (00:19:24) - I was just about to say that.
Eddie (00:19:25) - Cooks is a wide receiver that will catch anything underneath and give you that quick five yard out. He'll also break it deep. He'll also you know, but we we as a on a on a team right now tell me if it's if it's cap effect or factory cap that we don't need to really stretch to grab a third receiver.
Prescott (00:19:51) - I think we have quality depth with what we have right now with what is on the team.
Eddie (00:19:58) - What if there was an Tolbert? What if there was an option like somebody like. You mean like say.
Prescott (00:20:03) - Was,
Eddie (00:20:04) - I'm not. I'm not talking like I'm not talking about I'm available. I'm talking about, like, an IU. I'm talking about, like,
Prescott (00:20:12) - Let's say,
Eddie (00:20:13) - Why am I what's.
Prescott (00:20:15) - The guy who played for the bears who.
Eddie (00:20:16) - Just came on, man? Let's say Amari came up, right? Amari Amari is not going to be wide receiver.
Eddie (00:20:21) - Won't you love Mari. You love you. You go to sleep with your mama. You're Amari. Mama is my.
Prescott (00:20:27) - Boy I can have a man I got a life size Amari doll I sleep I know.
Eddie (00:20:31) - You talk. All right let's not. Let's get away from Amari. Let's say one of the Redskins. No no I say Mooney.
Prescott (00:20:37) - Mooney from the bears.
Eddie (00:20:39) - That's a good example. Mooney is somebody that's available that the agents reaching out to you right now, like, hey, do you want to spend, you know, let's say $7 million on the next year?
Prescott (00:20:51) - I would not.
Eddie (00:20:52) - Because I.
Prescott (00:20:53) - Would not because I because I'm like you, I think we have three quality can make the Pro Bowl receivers. Cooks can do it. Cooks. Cooks caught on later like the first three games or so. He was pedestrian. But then after that, like he caught fire. Like their favorite play was when he would run and break out toward the back pylon. He'd run.
Eddie (00:21:13) - That the flag was.
Prescott (00:21:16) - And and yeah.
Eddie (00:21:17) - You know and.
Prescott (00:21:18) - It's like Dak just throw it to the pylon and and and he would get it. And he got like five touchdowns. It was money. So I believe all three of course man Lampkin is the All-Pro. I think, Ferguson is ready to be an All-Pro. To me, he's a top five tight end. And then, cooks can be a Pro Bowler like a borderline Pro Bowler in this offense. All right. So once you get to that, what I call the fourth wide receiver, even the ones that tight end I think between Tolbert and man. What's the other guy? Was it Brooks?
Eddie (00:21:51) - Jalen Brooks yeah. Yeah.
Prescott (00:21:54) - And to me, Brooks, Brooks and Tolbert are similar. Brooks is a little he looks a little bigger to me. Like he can do more like body stuff. Catch more slants.
Eddie (00:22:02) - I think.
Prescott (00:22:03) - Tolbert it's more.
Eddie (00:22:04) - A my my opinion on that is the other way around. I think Tolbert was the like the possession let me go.
Eddie (00:22:12) - He was the taller receiver and the see that. And Jalen Brooks. Brooks is the guy that's he doesn't have anything to lose right. He's our fifth option on on our team right now and I yeah I.
Prescott (00:22:26) - Think and that's insane.
Eddie (00:22:27) - I think he's gonna he's given Tolbert a run for his money. you.
Prescott (00:22:32) - Know what I'm about to look up our.
Eddie (00:22:33) - And our Flournoy right now, I think. Flournoy. Yeah. And then we also have some other. Phase. We also have some guys that we signed from last year.
Prescott (00:22:46) - Oh, and also that that big tight end that they gave a lot of money to for the free agent.
Eddie (00:22:52) - Yeah, yeah. That guy, I was watching a few things about him the other day. If we go to a more conservative, like, where we need to protect our tackles constantly because we're going to need to protect guidance. You know that Ford is perfect for that spot, but, Stanford, he's there saying he was what.
Prescott (00:23:16) - They thought that Schoonmaker was going to be.
Eddie (00:23:18) - Well, broadest, broadest. Who was saying? Broadus the broadest, broadest. He was saying that. I say he is whatever Snoop's last name is. It's the same thing. he saw Stanford at, one of the training camps or whatever he said it was. Who's what? Tackle those guys. A tight end like he. Somebody had to tell him. No, that's a tight end. And he's like, what? Yeah. So like. And so this guy, I guess he looked like a.
Prescott (00:23:45) - Defensive end playing tight.
Eddie (00:23:47) - I can't wait till we get the pads on because Pads.
Prescott (00:23:50) - Oh, shoot. We even forgot about. Maybe even forgot about Turpin. Turpin is a wide receiver. I forgot about him.
Eddie (00:23:55) - But I don't know if he's that guy that's like, he's a that that trick play guy, you know what I mean? Like, you're not going to have him go out there and run, you know, a route. Yeah.
Prescott (00:24:07) - He's not going to run a curl or a slant.
Prescott (00:24:09) - He's going to run goals or do the the reverses or the jet sweep, but he's good enough to where like that pass he caught against the 49. That's the first touchdown we had where he went. And then he broke. He did the opposite of what what what cooks does cooks usually starts in. And then he goes toward the back pylon. That one was he started running straight. And then he just faded toward the pylon. And then he caught the touchdown. Like he can do stuff like that. He had a good game but he's not really Yeah. He really doesn't have like a router. He does. But but I think he's serviceable whenever. But he's one of those where once he comes in the game they have to account for him. They have to be like what what what is he doing? You have to pay extra attention to him.
Eddie (00:24:51) - So I'm going to go out on a limb and say that we believe that this is a fact, that that we we don't need to stretch and strain to make sure that we have a third wide receiver option, because I don't think so.
Eddie (00:25:03) - We we have third wide receiver options and they're just some of them are wide receivers. Some of them are tight end. Some of them are little bitty running backs.
Prescott (00:25:12) - Yeah I would say we have more need elsewhere. Like it's not like like you know if we didn't have either lamb or cooks then I would say yes. But because we have those two and Ferguson, I think we're of course, you know, knock on wood. Everything is based off injury, of course. But say, like we had last year, lamb didn't miss any time, cooks didn't miss any time, Ferguson didn't miss any time. They were there all season. Same with that. If that happens again this year we're fine.
Eddie (00:25:41) - Yeah yeah I we.
Prescott (00:25:43) - And so if I'm good.
Eddie (00:25:45) - So I like that. And I think some of the last things that we kind of wanted to talk about, were I read, I don't know if you saw this, but I mean, we're getting closer and closer to the camp and the, you know, the pressure's building.
Eddie (00:25:59) - Who's going to sign? Who's going to sign? I read an article the other day that said, hey, you know, the solution might be. And what I'm hearing from rumblings is that maybe it's just going to be a shorter contract for that instead of it being longer.
Prescott (00:26:14) - Maybe.
Eddie (00:26:15) - Because I mean, at least that's going to say, okay Dak here's your money bro. You deserve this. Let's get you at least on the books for an extension and extend you a little bit for so that we can lower that cap a little bit.
Prescott (00:26:30) - 60 million is a lot. Yeah.
Eddie (00:26:32) - And be able to pay you know feel comfortable giving KD that contract that he wants. And and just let's just get the shit done instead of dragging it out because nobody nobody wants to go into the season without him without without a contract. And that's going to it's not going to feel good for anybody. Even the Dak haters. Even the Dak haters, believe me. Unless you don't like the Cowboys. Realistically you don't want to see the Cowboys go into the season without him on that.
Eddie (00:27:00) - On because it's going to he could get hurt. He could do. I mean, it's just, Don't do it. Yeah.
Prescott (00:27:08) - But we'll see. And normally a week or two before campus when they sign somebody. So I say in the next week or two, we'll see that drop on breaking news, whatever somebody in the club was going to get signed. But it definitely won't be Parsons. He has too much time left. They have too much time. We need to.
Eddie (00:27:26) - Do it We need to do it before the 40 niners say, oh no, I know. Please don't go until before the 40 niners. Give him that. Please don't go. Contract. We need to sign. I'm telling you, I really believe that we got to. Because that's gonna that's gonna fuck things up a bit.
Prescott (00:27:47) - Yeah, but it's not going to get a Justin Jefferson Tyreek Hill contract CeeDee lamb should get a Justin Jefferson Tyreek. The only thing.
Eddie (00:27:55) - That's about that is it's not going to be that way.
Eddie (00:27:59) - But there might be something in the in the contract that we don't want. You know it might be the length. It might be some of the the verbiage. It might be anything that city's like. Well if it's in Iox I want it in mind. You know what I mean? You know that we want to play with our own money, but that's that's not all.
Prescott (00:28:20) - So we'll see. So, I heard you been, shacking up with a new boo lately. Spending a lot of time with someone lately?
Eddie (00:28:32) - This last week. You know, I mean, this, these yesterday and today. Yesterday at 4 p.m. I was able to download my college football 25. I've been waiting for this goddamn game for ten years, so ten years is a long time, believe me, I swear to God. I mean, I even saw a TikTok today of some dude burying his PS3 with his NCAA 14 and he's like, you did a wonderful job holding me out. And but like the the the fact that all of these grown men like me were just so excited for this to come out was just ridiculous.
Eddie (00:29:14) - It was amazing. I love it. It's, the game is everything that I wanted it to be. It's amazing. And if you get a chance to do it to to try it, check it out. Do it.
Prescott (00:29:27) - Man. So like that. Like I'm not a gamer now. But back when I was a gamer was when this game came out. I still remember that. I mean, I remember when they used to have the, the, you know, like the, the ones you can play in, in Walmart while my mom was shopping, I'd go over there and play, and that's when I don't know if you remember.
Eddie (00:29:46) - You get that. And it was.
Prescott (00:29:47) - It. It was when Nebraska was super good and they had Tommie Frazier and Lawrence Phillips. That's when I used to play.
Eddie (00:29:54) - That might have been games that might.
Prescott (00:29:55) - Have played in a long.
Eddie (00:29:56) - Time. Bill Walsh on the saga.
Prescott (00:30:00) - Man. But so what's what's what's worthy about this game? Should the people be excited?
Eddie (00:30:06) - The what? I've I and like I said, I've only played it since yesterday and I've been looking at it all day today.
Eddie (00:30:11) - Like I can't wait to get on it. But it's basically it's like, it's so interactive. There's so many things that you can that you can do with it. As a student athlete, like you have to be a student athlete. You have to keep a GPA, you have to study. Yeah, you have to have that interest study. And so every week you have like a certain amount of energy, like you have maybe seven energies that you can use and you have to utilize those seven energy things from practice. You have to study. You have to be social. So you have to go out and do stuff with your teammates. Or if you if your friends, if you don't, then you won't get any nil money. And and you have to keep on your health and you're like you have to you have to make sure that you're eating right and that you're taking good care.
Prescott (00:31:06) - So you had to make them go work out and do all that.
Eddie (00:31:08) - And that's crazy. That's on top of all the other little things that you have to do too.
Eddie (00:31:12) - Because like during the practices, you get to go and you can choose whether you're going to be a superstar, a blue chip or somebody that wants to that is like a walk on kind of thing. And so if you choose either one of those, obviously like like a blue chipper, I wasn't a sucker, I choose I chose blue Chip. And I went to, I got, recruited and I chose to go to Oregon and I went to Oregon. I wasn't a starter. So, when I play, like you're not an automatic starter, you have to earn your playing. Yeah. And you interact with the with the players. not the teammates. Like, they'll text you and stuff and, like, the one thing that I saw yesterday was this guy created a quarterback, and he was a freshman on, like, Ohio State and the the oh, no, it was Notre Dame. It was Notre Dame. And the Notre Dame quarterback texted him and said, hey, man, I'm having a trouble with my alarm.
Eddie (00:32:11) - Can you make sure that I wake up for practice tomorrow morning? And then it gives.
Prescott (00:32:15) - Me this.
Eddie (00:32:16) - Gives me like, wake them up on time. sabotage. Or it says, like, don't wake them up.
Prescott (00:32:24) - So you got choices.
Eddie (00:32:25) - Okay. Build your coaches confidence in you and shit, bro. Like, if they catch you lying about stuff. So, like, with that scenario right there with that guy did was he said I chose to not wake him up. So like, it was fine. Like the next day he was he like all they started, they let him practice as a starter. But then the next day they found out and like the teammates were mad at him. So they were starting so, so and like they lost like confidence in them to go out to party. So he couldn't go to like go social and stuff. So like oh it's like there's also there's also relationships with like girlfriends and shit. You have to do stuff. they can people can block you on social media and then you're fucked.
Eddie (00:33:09) - You can't get to it. It's crazy. It's so fun, man.
Prescott (00:33:12) - It's crazy. I never man. That's a lot of stuff. Somewhat, yeah, because I remember when I played the game, we just went on there and started the game. They had the same play. You couldn't sell players out. It wasn't like a whole back story or none of that. You just played football and that was it. So it's come a long way.
Eddie (00:33:28) - It's so fun. I can't wait to get on it. I mean, as a matter of fact, I think I think we're pretty much done here. We gotta. I gotta get on this. Yeah.
Prescott (00:33:36) - There you go. All right then, man. I'm gonna let you go play. I'm gonna let you go play.
Eddie (00:33:40) - Yeah. no, I, I definitely believe it's something that you guys need to, to invest in. if you have EA play, you can actually try it out right now. for ten hours for free without buying it.
Eddie (00:33:51) - So check it out.
Prescott (00:33:53) - Oh, yeah. Yeah, I saw that. A lot of people downloaded it. Like. So when's the official release?
Eddie (00:33:59) - Like next week. Release the 19th. I believe you can play it if you already pre-ordered. If you pre-ordered it and you bought a special package, you could play today. but, the release, like, they released it out to let people play it yesterday, too. So it's it's really a.
Prescott (00:34:18) - It's and that's crazy.
Eddie (00:34:20) - Go check it out.
Prescott (00:34:21) - So how's the actual gameplay. Like have you played a game with it against somebody. So like like so so like does it seem different than like. Do they try to be different than Madden? No.
Eddie (00:34:33) - No, I'm not gonna say they've been different because EA makes both games but yeah.
Prescott (00:34:39) - Yeah exactly. And so I try to see maybe the the CEO of the college game was like, you know what? We're going to try to be a little different.
Eddie (00:34:45) - The whole thing about this is, is like it's the it's the hype.
Eddie (00:34:50) - Like when you play Madden, you turn it on and then all of a sudden, I mean, you're on the kickoff, right? And this when you turn it on, you start the game. It starts in the locker room and the players go out and they slap the sign the the. And then they go into the tunnel and they go whatever tunnel. And you see the smoke and the, it's, it's it's fucking crazy. And EA sports fans. So the reason why I didn't come out last year was because they were spending so much time going to each one of the campuses and gathering all the information about like.
Prescott (00:35:24) - Oh, making it making it like as realistic as.
Eddie (00:35:26) - Possible, like, like game day, all the all the little intricacies of, you know, like, when Auburn goes out and touches the rock or the hedges and stuff, it's just anything like that. Yeah, it's super hyped up in this game. So it's it's so fun. Yeah. I'm playing for Oregon. You know, the duck goes out on a Harley every time he leads the team out on a Harley.
Eddie (00:35:47) - And they really like.
Prescott (00:35:49) - They do the push ups on after.
Eddie (00:35:51) - The touchdown on the board doing push ups I. agree. You got to try it out.
Prescott (00:35:56) - Is a is a like the gameday crew on there. Like did they license that like Corso on those is.
Eddie (00:36:02) - Another one that they you can choose what a commentary team is. So you could do like a regular like the regular. Okay. team on ESPN that does the SEC games or, or you choose to have the, the, the big game where you can have, Herbstreit and oh.
Prescott (00:36:21) - Yeah, yeah, you're the Saturday night game or whatever.
Eddie (00:36:24) - that it's that.
Prescott (00:36:26) - If they don't have Gus Johnson, I'm gonna be mad.
Eddie (00:36:28) - But I think that's Johnson CBS. I don't know. We'll see.
Prescott (00:36:32) - Yeah, we had to see, but that's good. Yeah, but but but E isn't tied to a certain network. Like are they ESPN, ABC.
Eddie (00:36:39) - Or whatever ABC owns ESPN.
Prescott (00:36:41) - Okay. Might be.
Eddie (00:36:42) - Disney owns it all.
Prescott (00:36:43) - But but I remember when they had I remember when they when I had NFL two K and NCAA two K, then that game was pretty good.
Prescott (00:36:53) - But they only did it for like one year because E just crushed them. They couldn't.
Eddie (00:36:55) - They tried to do it.
Prescott (00:36:57) - I mean they didn't catch on to it was.
Eddie (00:36:59) - A and then I just wish that there was a college basketball game again. College basketball game was so mean. Yeah, that's the game. Now that college football is back out now with the Nil money, I think they might. They got that too because there was a college basketball even a college baseball game with fucking aluminum bats. Could you imagine think. Oh, that was so fun, bro. So fun. Exactly. All right. Yeah.
Prescott (00:37:31) - Man. It's crazy, but all right. Yeah, man. We're gonna give you a chance to go because, I it looks like your nipples are super hard right now.
Eddie (00:37:40) - The game is over because, I gotta buy. I didn't buy the game. I didn't preorder it in time enough, so I gotta wait till the 19th.
Prescott (00:37:48) - Yeah, so.
Eddie (00:37:50) - But $10 going to say you're done and you can't play it again.
Eddie (00:37:53) - It's gonna be so bad.
Prescott (00:37:55) - Yeah, it's only three days. You good, man. You good? Who's got this? So. Oh, there's the, delivery guy. Amazon. I thought you were just talking my window. Like I thought he's coming to my house. Nah, nah, he went to another house. I'm looking at the window in the front, but. Yeah, but anyway. Sorry, took over the Cowboys check with some NCAA 25, but, hey, it's a big deal. It was a big deal. The only thing overshadowed it overshadowed it was the whole assassination attempt. I saw some a tweet that said, hey man, this better not delayed 25. That's how important this game is.
Eddie (00:38:29) - It was one of the best tweets I've ever seen. Because, I mean, it is I mean, no matter what side of the fence you're on, everybody loves NCAA football.
Prescott (00:38:37) - Yeah, everybody's like, hey.
Eddie (00:38:40) - I swear to God yesterday, bro. It's not to us.
Eddie (00:38:43) - But my AC went out yesterday, right? And the first thing that I thought of in my head was, I'm going to be so uncomfortable playing this game. Like I didn't even think about, like, oh yeah, I gotta get like, that's the first thing I thought. I was like, how, how long is it going to be that I'm going to be uncomfortable playing this game in this heat?
Prescott (00:39:04) - But man, I miss those days. I don't think you understand, man. I'm 42 now, so I'm I'm from the original Tecmo Bowl. And when Tech mobile tool came out, oh that was a game changer. Like, we couldn't believe it. We thought, like, it can't get any better than this.
Eddie (00:39:19) - Because all your friends and they had to have a pillow or a blanket over their lap, over the controller so that they didn't see your play.
Prescott (00:39:27) - So you didn't see what would play because you had to chose.
Eddie (00:39:30) - Oh, if you don't know.
Eddie (00:39:31) - He was fucked.
Eddie (00:39:32) - You have a.
Prescott (00:39:33) - Thousand plays now. But on on Tecmo Bowl you had eight players to choose from for running, for passing. And like so you wanted this play. You had to push up and a so you pick that play. But if you were seeking.
Eddie (00:39:46) - Look at whatever you saw them push.
Prescott (00:39:48) - You know exactly.
Eddie (00:39:50) - The same play on defense.
Prescott (00:39:51) - So you can head straight to that wide receiver or straight like so. Now you know the running back sweep going to the top. So you just run straight to that spot.
Eddie (00:40:00) - You remember like like the whole team the whole all 11 would go to.
Eddie (00:40:05) - Oh yeah.
Prescott (00:40:05) - If you picked the exact play because you had to pick a defensive play too.
Eddie (00:40:08) - So like I chose you.
Prescott (00:40:09) - So you didn't pick a defensive play because.
Eddie (00:40:11) - Your run.
Eddie (00:40:12) - Oh you just you're screwed. Yeah.
Prescott (00:40:14) - It's all out Blitz man. And everybody would get super fast And it was crazy. So that was what what we used to play back in the day when I was a young kid. But now it's cool because.
Prescott (00:40:27) - Because back then it wasn't cool for adults to play video games. You were a loser if you were over 21 still playing video games. But when we're not, no, no, no, I'm talking about like.
Eddie (00:40:37) - In the early 90s.
Prescott (00:40:38) - Like between 90 and 95. But man, you were a loser if you were at home playing video games all day now. Oh my God, everybody plays people. In fact, when they call, you lose it.
Eddie (00:40:48) - If you don't play. They have, they have e-sports now. And like, people work like they do this for a living.
Prescott (00:40:55) - Paying millions of dollars to play video games all day. That's insane to me anyway. Yeah, well, maybe talk way too long. Anyway, we'll be back this week.
Eddie (00:41:04) - We'll talk soon.
Prescott (00:41:06) - So y'all tune in next week. I'll get this all set up. Set out. So here we go, here we go. Victory Formation podcast. Eddie, say goodbye to the people.
