50 formation podcast, you know episode 31 baby still in season 1 because the season has started yet one season starts We're gonna be in season 2, but right Tell the people how you feel Well, what's up, ladies and gentlemen, it's good to see you guys or hear you guys again We're back for another week of It's crazy Dallas Cowboys 2024 season Yeah, it is 10 more days of training camp before they go back to Dallas got a game in against which would have been our, the Michael Gallup revenge game, What's today, today is, or there's 10 more days, Well, that's crazy. Just a coincidence, it looks like Tavon Yeah, he retired too, man. All the former greats. Tavon was good at what he did. He was a big guy in a little body. You He was so dynamic in college. He was like how Reggie That's why he went number six, I think. Number six or seven drafted. Man, he was insane. But it didn't transfer as much. He still was good in the NFL. It wasn't like he was a complete bust. But it didn't transfer as much. He was never as dynamic. We even had him for a little while. He was our web-back, whatever that is. I don't remember That web-back? I never even heard of that. Yeah, that's what they called him. I think somebody was calling you a Yeah, man. I know, exactly. It came too close. That's probably why I didn't take off, because the voice-to-text So what, uh, what, what have you been hearing about this week? What's Cowboys news. Um, I say the biggest thing was getting a little thin on offensive line. He Doga, I mean, they say four to six weeks broken toe. So Uh, he said, they said four to five weeks. Uh, he's the, I think he'll be out. If you listen to what, Some of the scouts were saying, I think Jerry said something about him being out half a year. So it's crazy. I mean, I, I think it's, I mean, your feet are really important when you're, when you're a big guy like that. Right. And I'm sure it's really hurting them, but when you say thin on offensive line, I, I, we saw what happened in the game. Right. When. We didn't have the starters in so when he got hurt we kind of had to shuffle around we had to throw Guyton out there because they had to put Shipley somewhere and what's that other kid? What's the other guy that they moved over to right Well, awesome Yeah, awesome. I think had to play left guard. Yeah, you sure do Swing tackle before he don't look I I forgot who they put at right tackle, but whoever that was was not, is not the right guy at the right tackle. It's not Dakota Shepley, because he's a backup center. It's another Well, let's go, wasn't it? Wasn't it Willetska? Willetska left. Willetska was getting IVs, so he had to leave, too. So I think there's something, I think sickness is going around that they're not It is, yeah, something. Cause there's something Guyton He had, uh, I mean he, he had to play. He missed like three practices. He had to play plays and he got diagnosed with, He had pneumonia. So I think probably pneumonia. Could you imagine out there trying to trust your first game, your first snaps and you're just battling, trying to breathe, just breathe. I know you said something about him grading out like one of the highest, I He did, he had the highest grade out of all the offensive linemen. I listened to Vach talk about him today, or yesterday, and he was just like, I watched him lay on the ground for four minutes after a play one time. He's like, he's so terrible. I don't know why he got graded so high. But when I remember that at all, when I watch the game and I rewatched it, There was there was a spot when he got hit and he got taken down from behind and rolled up on and he just laid there like for four But yeah, it's. With that injury, that toe injury, that means that we're going to have to carry another tackle that we wouldn't usually have carried. Right. So I think it's either going to be wallets go or ball that we have. Yeah, we have to keep that. We probably would have let go because we Yeah. So that's, that's going to be tough, but it is what it is. I think. Our offensive line right now, uh, is, is one of the strengths. I mean, you saw pretty strong. You saw pretty strong. You saw how And, um, when we had, uh, when we, we did move Cooper BB over to center, he looked pretty good as well. Uh, was a leader out there. Uh, it's just. Think getting all five of them in the position and and letting them build together is gonna be yeah the trick Getting everybody even look good at guard He got a guard He looked he looked even better at guard than he did at center. It's We can't get him in his best shot at center right now is and I think he'll be I think he'll be so my prediction is Hoffman starts the season And B.B. is our swing interior lineman. Anything happens to anybody on the inside, B.B.' 's there, right? Because he can play all three of those positions. And then we'll have Steele and we'll have Guyton outside, but then we'll also have... Well, let's go... Richardson will let's go. I think Asim will be our swing tackle. And we'll have well, let's kill there, but then we'll also keep one more guy. So that's 10 offensive linemen that will keep Yeah, it's Yeah, I think we were good. That's that's that's one position group. I'm not really nervous about Not as nervous as, uh, and even without lamb, I'm not even nervous about wide receiver, but we don't even have to worry. Cause, uh, Micah said, he promises, he said, pinky swear. Lamb You watched the game a couple of times, right? And there, there was times where our wide receivers were playing Yeah. Even with the bad passes, Trey, Lance, he, his, his, like you could see he went to the right read. But the past wasn't where you can get a good play, you know, like their quarterbacks who can throw it, they'll catch it. because of the way they caught it, they're gonna go down and maybe get a yard or two. But if you hit them in stride perfect, that's an extra five, six yards they can get. And that's the difference between a starter and a second, third string quarterback, because they made some spectacular catches on routine, little slants and stuff that I'm like, man, that's a good catch. But then of course, they didn't help him a couple times, you know. Old boy from the Key and Keeles catch, Racy McMath, he They were making the Megatron catches at first. I was like, These guys are fucking athletic as hell, but man, they were killing it. And then, uh, but my, my thing when I, when I was watching Trey, it was throughout the game and he, he regressed into this, um, where he, you could tell he's not comfortable, but in the pocket, but that's, I think it had to do with what lineman package was out there at that moment, right? Because we didn't have starters and there was a lot of, pressure up the middle and it's not comfortable for a quarterback to have people landing at their feet. So he, he starts taking off right away and yes, he has amazing feet, but he can't throw on the run as much as I've seen. I haven't seen like the best, the best, uh, you know, accuracy when he's running, but the times that he did run, he said, fucking, I'm taking off. It was big time plays. Big time plays, 44 yards. Yeah, he was our leading rusher. And it was like effortless type, you know, it wasn't like busted coverage. He was, he was getting it. He outran like linebackers and, and, and I'm like, it was, it was pretty good. Like, I think he had like a pretty average outing. He made throws when he needed to. He had to, he threw 41 times, which he's never done in his whole career, even in college, high school. but the 49ers, he's never thrown 41 times in a game. And they, you could tell they were intentionally making them pass from the pocket. They didn't call any like boots or waggles or anything That was one thing that. Some of the, the, uh, podcasters and commentators were saying was they, they, they specifically made some of it uncomfortable for him to see what, what he can do and what he That's why you can't pay attention to the score. That's why as a smart fan, you've got to realize they're trying stuff. They could a better play to get fourth and one or whatever or they want to see him or he could have thrown a better pass to The two guys that were wide open for touchdowns, but it he He missed Oh, I didn't even see the third one. I just saw Yeah, one one was a tight end on a on a wheel route The one was the other one was on the fourth and one where the guy won off the line of scrimmage But he threw it It was the the one 16 or whoever like That was just outside like here if you just put a little touch on it, but that's a little bit more touch Yeah, I mean, that's that's what you get. That's that's why we're so spoiled with Dak man head back Yeah, it is fucking gun, but he is so much The receivers really that's the route That's the route that cooks ran like in the second half of the season It seemed like cooks caught that touchdown like all his touchdowns were that same corner out in the middle run toward the sideline He caught it up. Yes, sir, but and that's why I'm like For all those crazy people, they're like, oh yeah, let Dak walk. We'll just have Lance be our starting quarterback. I'm like, if you're a fan of finishing four and 13 every year, then yeah, let's do that. I'd rather finish He's got the talent to be a backup quarterback right now. I think he does. He does. I think he can be somebody that kind of gets. And some of the podcasts that I listened to last night was absolutely perfect. They said, the three quarterbacks that we have on our squad, Dak, Is the best quarterback that we have the best the best quarterback in the in the east, right? I mean by yes Not far. I'll say that rush Rush is there because rush is gonna get you through a short term if Dak got hurt for a second and sprained his ankle and had to get pulled out of the game and we had to get through three quarters against the Giants I Still expect us to Cooper rush is gonna win that game. He's not going to pull us out of a game plan. I We're not gonna have to change anything. We just we do everything we practiced Trey is on the squad in case. I mean the scenario would be That gets hurt and it's long-term Cooper talking play 11 games and when us 10 games. Yeah, exactly We'd have to put Trey out there and just change our whole offense and say, okay now we're running We got a running quarterback, you know, and we'd just be an option team. That's Yep, as long as Dex healthy trail and it's gonna be the Emergency quarterback every week just like last year the third quarter, but I don't see I don't come in if someone's I don't think we release them No, no, I don't think they put too much fourth round pick. They better not they'll make You better finish that tray Lance Before you get up. Yeah, man, we could I'll put that in the I'll put that tray Lance in the refrigerator You could have it for breakfast and lunch and dinner until you finish it I don't even thought could have had brain had anybody could have had Yeah, but that's the Now we couldn't have trade Benson. He got drafted He's the one I really wanted but He went to I think he's the only one that was hurt to like he was the only one that came. So yeah We're not talking about Benson we're talking about the guy from Texas Sorry, That's a guy from Florida State. We're talking about yeah business from Florida State I know you're talking about though because I that's who the guy who he was living at the fucking at star and he was rehabbing and he was wearing the stuff like Come on man about the practices and they're like girl you're not even on the team yet, but come here So what'd you think about a judan you Is he a viable option? I think in a perfect world, if Judon said, yeah, I'll play for $6 million. Yeah. Yeah. As long as he's not expecting a long-term deal after this season. Because that's what I heard. He wants to go somewhere. Because then they've got to pay him, so they want to sign him. Every team is... That's just like... Situation that the Jets are in right now with Hassan Reddick. Yeah, Hassan Reddick Well, you didn't really think that you were gonna trade for him and pay him seven million dollars He was gonna play for you this year. He wouldn't play for the fucking years. He said no, I'm not playing I want a new contract. Yeah, he went over on the contrast But the the judan thing is a little bit different like he's not holding out and saying I I want a new contract I think judan comes in. I think he comes in like let me prove to you what I can do and then earn a bigger contract like that. So maybe we do rent him for a season for$6 million and then another team pays him big time later. I really would. I'd rent him and then just let him go on free agency if he shows up. Because I think we're kind of light on the end when Sam Williams left. All we have right now is... But this defense with Zimmer, He doesn't really depend on dns for all the pressure and he has to double a gap blitzes And so he he gets he when he gets pressure up the middle so Even though we need him The dns I I think on cuts. I think that if if he's If that value is there and they're able to pick him up for something cheap then yeah, but I don't think that I would get, I don't think the free, the front office is going to pay I really don't. Cause Nealon, Nealon showed up. So I think that He didn't, he didn't, he spent that, that high draft pick on a DN second round. Yeah. That guy needs to produce. And he is, if you, if you saw a lot of the highlights of it, he was graded out pretty high too. So he's, he's just, he's just, Think he's just like the Marcus where people are gonna expect a Yeah, but he's just gonna do everything Above average, he's gonna do everything above average and every once in a while He'll flash and maybe have it like a two sack game, but you'll see him stop some runner When it's like, you know third and three he's gonna tackle that guy Boom Get out there see a little stuff like that strong sign in I mean that that started way back with parcels when we had like a Uh, what was the other guy that we drafted? Oh, He's a talking, uh, he's a, you know, I'm talking about Spears, Spears, Spears, Spears, Spears, Spears first. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Maybe pick where first. Yeah. But, but they were in the same draft. He, he was that DN. He was a strong DN before a tank and he was the, the guy that, that was there to stop the runs. And I think that's what Nealon is. He's there to actually, you know, uh, hold that side, hold that end. Because we saw when he came out, I think it was Fajoko that came in for him. And we saw like a couple of times that the Rams got outside and got first downs because Fajoko's just not big enough to make sure that that. Yeah, because he was a deep tackle last year and I don't think he has the body for end right now. Yeah, I think he has an in body for when it's a clear running play, but if they passing and you gotta hold it You just told him that he had a goal line DN body that says like you got a you got a face for radio, son Man so, you know what, you know what guys we're bringing it back. We're bringing it back We're bringing back the here. We go player of the week. Let me pick who we want And then we got the go horns of the game, the person who we think, oh man, you got to get better for next week. And then we're going to pick a someone who did great, who didn't expect kind of under the radar type thing. So who you got? Who's Well, I think it's got to be Bell. I mean, Bell stepped up big time, right? He was one of the only players that played starting snaps that started. He was a legit starter out there, but he looked really good. And I think the year of him playing linebacker has really done him well. I mean, he's a downhill He did. Man, that's pretty good. I'll take that every day of the week. But my guy, I gotta go with my boy, the Autobot. He was pretty good. He barely missed a 65 yarder. That was close. But he was perfect. And I'm like, people, ever since Lieutenant Dan, when Dan Bailey was here, When they say cows are kicking the field goal, you could leave right then and go get a beer. You can go to the bathroom because you know those points are going to hit the board. That's what I feel with Aubrey. When they say, all right, let's send out the field goal unit, you can leave right then and go do whatever you want to do. You got a little extra time to do whatever you got. Put some cheese on the nachos. By the time you come back, it'll be three points on the board. So that's why I like him, man. I like Aubrey. And he made him all. And he could have made more. He could have had more points, but they You know forsook a couple field goals. They want to test Lance out passing so he could have like at least three more Yeah, there was times when they're like, hey, this is preseason go for it. Absolutely Yeah, it was obvious field goal like in the game. They would went and they would have kicked it but those like now let's go for it get some reps in for Lance, which which I completely agree with completely understand but but I'll be with it would would have kicked those two so he was my player the game and then He literally had to run out right after the games wife was having a baby Like he didn't get, I don't even think he showered. He might've still been wearing his uniform and pads. He literally ran out after the game. His wife had a baby, so congratulations on that. Aubrey, your dad made all your field goals. Next time, make the 65 yardage so it can be perfect, and then we'll forget it. But that's my, here we go, player of Who do you think was your clown of the week, Oh man, it was tough. I started to give it to, Eric Scott, but he redeemed himself And he got that interception, but he still was kind of shaky man So and it really wasn't anybody who was who really suck, but he was getting ripped man He So I'm gonna go with Eric I need to find out who this hold on one second Okay, tell us more about about and it was actually pretty and it was I mean and he was doing pretty good in training camp and it was kind of disappointing the game when they they were picking on it was like they had a game plan whoever Eric Scott is holding let's go after him but one thing Zimmer does with his defense is He doesn't teach them the ball hawk. He teaches them kind of like how Bill Belichick does it. Just do your job, be where we tell you to be, and good stuff will happen. And on almost all those interceptions, it was the thing. They were right where they were supposed to be. And they made the interception easy because Stetson Bennett threw some terrible picks. None of them were like the um, the bland pics where you went and got it or the digs pick where you and got it they were just in the right place right time because they listened to coaching and they made the interception and I mean good God, you know Stetson Bennett the goat or whatever on bleacher report that Oh man. Oh yeah. He wanted us to draft him. He's He had, I mean, he legit had a, he Yeah. For you guys will know what we're talking about in the bleach report, the Cowboys community is a guy who, who, Once that gone and he'll drop all these quarterback like he'll drop gifs of the quarterbacks that he wants to take that spot and Stetson Bennett was he was pounding the table for him draft him and all our all our problems are solved and that happened so as We're fans, we don't We're all the Or what is that the the couch scouts? We're all yeah, But, uh, my, my guy, uh, by far, I think was Earl Bostic. That's the guy. That's the guy that was right. Played right. I don't, I don't think he's going to make this team. Uh, he, he was the one that was putting the, there was pressure when he was playing left guard and then they moved them over to right tackle and all of a sudden that side of the fell apart. It's. It's not gonna work and I I would Please get him off of the team before someone gets hurt kind of Yeah now to be fair It's very difficult to switch from So at least he tried but he still looked bad I mean had to do it if you can't we have to we have to bring somebody on the squad that can play right tackle then because if he if well, let's goes gone and And ball's not playing tackle anymore. He's playing guard for some reason. Why move Bostic over? Just slide ball over if he has experience Let's do it. I agree. I agree with that sentiment. So who is your under the radar person that you like? Man, he sneakily had a Some of our linebackers would look pretty awesome. I think that they were moving around really good. It was the safeties that brought my, that was, that brought my eye. I kept looking. I would, I wanted to watch the safeties. I wanted to watch our Dean lineman, but I kept finding, uh, the, the safeties and it was Julius wood. Number 33. He had an interception, but it wasn't just that, like he was making plays. Like, uh, we, we wanted to curse to make plays last year. Right. It could be that I'm just super sensitive to see that number three, 33 out there. I kept, I kept seeing 33 and I was like, Ooh, that. And he just kept making plays every, every time I had my own. I think under it, I, I know our safety room is going to be pretty packed and it's going to be tough to make the squad in that safety room. But if we can, I think he's going to be somebody that can grow, play special teams and then maybe be a And I, and I kind of hate to pick this guy cause I mean, he's the first round pick, but guiding stepped in and did a really, really good job. And considering that he was sick all week, he missed practices, you know, he's a brand. I mean, and he hasn't played that much of, you know, college football, left tackle to just come in and step in and be a day one starter like some people are. But even when he messed up a few, you know, people I look at bodge brought if they It was one where he leaned forward, he messed up, but his feet were so perfect and good, he recovered, and he still kept the DN from not even getting close to the quarterback. So it's like, little stuff like that is what I noticed. Man, he destroyed a guy when he pulled on the run play. He just Does he not remind you a lot of Tyrone? He does. The stature and how big, I know that he's really young, He's The feet is what gets me. His feet are very nimble. You never see him stumbling or crossing his feet, tripping up, like Ball would be on the floor a lot of the time. He doesn't get on the floor. He stands up at the end of the play. That's how you know you have an athletic lineman, because I thought about it. I thought about it, but... Our boy... I He didn't do anything. Brooks, Brooks, Brooks took Brooks took it all, but the ball kept going to Cam Johnson, uh, Man, racy McMath had a chance, man. He blew his chance. He I'd be surprised if racy. I mean racey was So he's been on the squad Yeah, he did it was already it was already Slim slim slim to none that he's gonna make this team Yeah, he needed the injury to make the team and It could be you know, he's one of the tallest guys on our team to with at 6-3 as a receiver, but We just got we have too many guys that are That are gonna be pushing that that wide receiver room for him to drop balls like that. You know, I mean and Every year we have one sitting on the sideline are just soaking in the I'm a starter Great man That's how that's how far he's come. He's so good now He didn't even play he was in there with starters. But um every year we have one player like um, um Billy Johnson where they kill it at camp, but it just does not translate into the Preseason games. It's like man. Where's all the stuff you were doing the preseason game? It wasn't like he didn't have chances. He just didn't Come through like So it's like Who's throwing him the ball in practice Dak? Who's trying to get him the ball in in this in the preseason game? Lance scram a scrambling behind the third offensive line It's not the same the coaches do understand that and they'll try to put them the with at least a couple different scenarios with different drives so that they'll we you know We got to see him with the ones we got to see him with it because with the threes He's just he's just not getting the same support around him. So I I think that I Think he'll make the team Crackle figures so so so overall do you You taking a step forward or taking a step back as a team overall looking I think we grew from that team. We didn't win the game, but that wasn't the goal. I think the goal was to see. Yeah, I think the goal is to put real game pressure on Lance and see what he's doing. I think our running game looked really good in the very beginning and they said, OK, that's enough. Right, I mean, they gave the ball to you. I'm an uncle Rico, Rico three times and they're like, all right, come sit down. Cause that was a, he looks fucking great. They're like, we've seen enough for the rest of the game. And since hope he doesn't get hurt, uh, But, um, one thing I did like the play calling was actually vanilla too. Um, I'm telling you, it was three, I know. And for vanilla play calling, it was really good. There were three touchdowns that Lance had. But and then it was a fourth rush had a touchdown because um, it's a little bit more on the bomb He blew right by him. He had to stop and catch the ball if he let him that's an easy touchdown that was fourth touchdown and lance had three of them that were wide open that The play call was perfect for the defense. They ran and that was that that's three touchdowns all day because they were too easy and Rush he I mean doesn't have the strongest arm, but it gets down there. We caught it So I wasn't upset but that's why I had high hopes because I'm like the play calling was vanilla and it still resulted in should have been 28 points and he and we didn't start doing any of the Real stuff like we would put lamb in or turpin in or cooks in so it's like i'm i'm very very impressive You It's like I I want to see Hey, you know, I uh, the coaches were like, yeah, I want to see this this Tight end here. I want to see him get the ball in this area, right? So yeah, and speaking of I mean the tight ends had a, had a hell of a game. I think that we, I think that except schoolmakers, I mean, he did drop that ball, but when you go back and look at it, a lot of the times, uh, in, in the run in the beginning, uh, and in the middle where we were running, uh, with a snoop, the schoolmaker was making some good blocks him, him and, uh, span forward are pretty good blocking tight end. And I don't, yeah. I don't better blocker than I don't think that Hendershott's gonna make this spot. I think that it I think it's gonna be for I think you didn't see Stevens catch a couple balls, Yeah, he almost seemed like he's a receiver something drastic will have to happen for him to shot to make this team like someone has to be injured or Something if we're gonna keep Stevens on the practice squad and the shots not gonna make a squat at all Yeah, he's not we'll see They're gonna go for tight ends and what's-his-name been been working at a tight end as well. Lipki, so Vanilla gorilla, he's getting some snaps at tight end. So man hinder shot It's not looking good. It's still it's still a chance, but it's not let's go He was undrafted yeah He sure was alright, so let's uh Close it out with some fun stuff. What'd you think in fantasy? Um, right now, just to do right now, but I mean, my, my work's a little bit, you know, we had, uh, we had a couple of rounds of layoffs and stuff. So people aren't in the fantasy mood right now. So I don't, I don't know if we're going to get one in the discord, got one with my boys. I've been doing forever. So we got the, we got the draft coming up this Tuesday. So next, uh, next podcast, we're going to actually do live. So next week is going to be our, uh, We're going to I think at this point right now, I think Yeah, we might like, I'll have my own team. Eddie will have his own team and the podcast. I know it's a conflict of interest, but Hey, we're the, we're the commissioners. We can do whatever we want. So allow people to give us suggestions on what we should do for the you know with the with the Line up that week and stuff like that, you know in the in the comments Let us set them up should be playing and things of that nature, but it's it's just we'll see it's an experiment Yeah, well try something out so I'll be drafting mine and then Eddie be drafting his and then we'll both be putting input to who I think it's only two minutes, so we gotta think quick. Pick somebody for the podcast, so the podcast will have a team. I was thinking that we should let the computer just draft them, but then I'm like, nah, that takes the fun out The only thing that sucks about that is sometimes the computer will pick the best player coming up, and you wanted him on your team too, right? Because you're like, oh, please, God, don't pick him. No, I can't believe that he's coming Man, but I still remember our first year doing the Discord. He wasn't even there. The computer picked his team. He won the league. Oh, We changed the rules on something and he was, I was supposed to have the last pick and I wanted it and he couldn't get it that way. And the draft just happened. And I was just like, fuck it. Then I'm going to let, I'm going to let the computer pick. And I was just sitting there with my arms folded and And he won.
